Courage is the power to let go of the familiar. Raymond Linquist Dear Friends,
An announcement was made at last month’s Chefs for Change, foreshadowing a courageous new undertaking by Families Moving Forward (FMF) and introducing a speedier pathway to housing stability for families facing homelessness. FMF is joining its community partners to provide Rapid Re-Housing to families living in its emergency shelter and families currently living on the street. The number of families living on the street parallels the number of families currently in its shelter, and FMF is committed to its mission to help families in the crisis of homelessness find their way home. All families in the crisis of homelessness deserve a pathway home.
FMF’s Rapid Re-Housing Program (RRH) will provide housing identification, move-in and rent assistance, and RRH case management and services to families identified for the program. FMF will measure its success based on three performance benchmarks: reduction in the length of time families spend homeless, the exit of households to permanent housing, and the limitation of returns to homelessness within a year of program exit. FMF recognizes this bold move to add RRH to the supportive services offered to families in its 20-family emergency shelter. We believe it must be taken to address the increased need of families experiencing homelessness in Durham.
FMF would like to thank you—our dedicated supporters, strongest advocates for families living in the crisis of homelessness, generous volunteers and donors, and our community partners and neighbors—for joining us as we strive towards our vision of every family thriving in a safe, stable home. We at FMF find inspiration to be bold in our work as we look into the eyes of the children we serve who are awaiting a better future.
Sincerely, |
