Chefs for Change is BACK in 2021
The long anticipated return to the Chefs for Change Series is finally here! We are proud to announce new dates for the remaining dates of the 2020/2021 Series at the Rickhouse!
• July 26th with Chef Damion Moore from Dame's Chicken and Waffles
• September 14th with Chef Matthew Kelly from Mateos, Mothers & Sons, St. James and Vin Rouge
• December 3rd is our Chefs for Change Gala with local desserts, suction and program
This year, we are finishing out the series with two of the dinners (skipping Vimala’s dinner this year) and will have our Gala in person on December 3rd. We hope to invite Vimala back next year, as well as new chefs for the 2022 series.
Folks who have purchased individual dinner tickets and series passes for 2020 have been notified of the new dates and we are working with them to be able to move their tickets around if need be. A VERY limited number of dinner tickets will be available for sale, so if you are interested in being put on a list of folks with first access to the released tickets, please email Shana Carignan at shana@fmfnc.org.
Crawfish Festival
It was technically on the last day of May, but that didn’t stop us from starting off June with a bang! The amazing folks at Honeysuckle at Lakewood put on an incredible Memorial Day Crawfish Festival and we were honored to be the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds!
Between the live music, excited crowd, and amazing food, the event was the perfect way to start off the summer and get reconnected with the Durham community after a year spent indoors!
We want to give a special thank you to board member Tom Meyer for the invitation, Chef Mark for the incredible fare, and to the sponsors that helped make it possible. Summer has officially started and we are proud and grateful to have friends in the community like the Honeysuckle at Lakewood who help support our families.
Families Moving In & Donation Needs
Things have been getting busy at 300 N. Queen St! The shelter is buzzing with new families moving in and current families moving out into permanent housing. With all the activity ramping up we need your support to help us keep up with the needs of our families through donated goods.
New twin and full size comforters are in extremely high demand along with dish soap, toilet paper and paper towels. As eviction moratoriums lift and the kids are out of school, our shelter is going to continue to get busier and busier, so your support will be vital for our families.
Please visit our website (https://fmfnc.org/in-kind) as well as our Amazon Wish-list for a full list of requested items.
Contact Brady at 919-683-5878 x29 or at brady@fmfnc.org for more information or to schedule a drop off time. The support we received over the last 18 months was incredible and it gives us confidence that our community will continue to help us serve families in need. Thank you!
Welcome Durham Summer
The heat is here and so is the Durham Summer Wine & Food Festival! The Durham Summer Festival is a four-day festival taking place from Thursday, July 1 to Sunday, July 4 showcasing the amazing food, music, and arts of the Triangle. Not only is it going to be incredibly fun, but it is also for a great cause!
Families Moving Forward has been named the official charity partner of the Durham Summer Festival, so you can have a good time in the sun and help us serve families in crisis at the same time.
Both single day and weekend passes are available for early purchase at https://durhamsummer.com/tickets so get them while they last! We are grateful to be the beneficiary of such an incredible event and look forward to seeing you all at the kickoff event.
Happy Pride Month
Families Moving Forward is proud to serve and support families with children who are experiencing homelessness, many of whom are members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as some of our staff, board, volunteers and community partners. A family is a family and ALL are welcome at FMF.
