Our Gala is Going Virtual!!
We speak for pretty much everyone that the coronavirus has thrown a massive wrench into our plans and goals for 2020. Our Chefs for Change Dinner Series was put on indefinite pause after our first dinner of the year with Andrea Reusing in early March.
After several attempts to pivot, our staff attempted to salvage what we could of the dinners but ultimately have decided to roll over the remaining dinners into next year's Series. All Series Passes, Sponsorships, and tickets will be honored for three of the 2021 dinners. The dates are still pending. We will be reaching out with more information and asking for continued patience while ensuring our supporters' safety and navigating the rules around gatherings.
One thing we CAN do is provide a Gala experience as we've never done before! We will still host our Chefs for Change Gala on Friday, November 13th, but you all will be joining us in the safety of your own homes. That's right; our Gala is going virtual.
Planning is underway, so the details will be shared at a future date, but we understand that folks will want to know what to expect. We can share that we will host an online auction and virtual program with interactive elements without giving too much away. We're working with our sponsors on some other special goodies but we can't share yet!
We have opened ticket sales back up for the Gala online. Please consider joining us for this important fundraiser and community celebration.
Porch Renovation Project
Since the merger in 2016, we have made several improvements to make room for our growing staff. Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, we were able to transform our screened-in porch into two new offices for our Aftercare Family Services Coordinators this summer, who had previous office space at Northgate Mall. These offices will serve as a cozy and welcoming space for Aftercare families to meet with their FSCs.

Canes Cares
Last month Stormy and the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation stopped by to spread some cheer to staff and families. Stormy didn't come empty-handed either, as families were gifted with street hockey sticks and balls! Shortly after Stormy left, the nets they gifted to FMF were set up, and a street hockey game ensued with kids and parents involved.
Thank you to Lindsey Robertson, Stormy, and the Canes for making this such a fun day!
Partner Spotlight
Despite the difficulties presented by the Coronavirus pandemic, StepUp has continued to partner with us to provide services to our families. Recently, two guests have had multiple job interviews for living-wage jobs, and both shared that they felt empowered by the support offered through individual sessions with their career advisor.
We thank StepUp for providing such a valuable service, and we salute our guests who have taken advantage of the opportunity to grow their employable skill set!
