Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.
Helen Keller
On Saturday, May 21st, FMF held its first time ever Rock the Block (RTB) event and it accomplished far more than we anticipated. Together staff, new friends, old friends, neighbors, the faith community, community partners joined together for a day of work and fun; the work completed brought about a change in the emergency shelter is inspirational to staff and shelter guests alike.
As the 100+ volunteers arrived and eagerly got to work painting, cleaning, organizing, and planting, children played in the bouncy house, got their faces painted, and enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers. The backdrop for the event was a hot summer day with even “hotter” bands that played rock, reggae, and popular tunes. I believe it is true to say that everyone went home with a fatigue that felt really rewarding knowing that good things were accomplished for Families Moving Forward. I know that the staff and I are truly amazed by the outpouring of love.
To all of you who braved the 90+ degree day and joined us to create an even more beautiful place for families experiencing homelessness to take their first steps onto their “forever homes” thank you so very much. Together we accomplished so much!
Sincerely,
