Gala Update
Attending this year’s Chefs for Change Virtual Gala on December 3rd is THE perfect way for you to tune in to a fun and informative special event from the comfort of your living room.
Not only will we be delivering a goodie bag earlier in the day for you to enjoy while you’re signed in, but we’ll be showcasing highlights and community awards that will make you feel all the feels about the support you’ve provided for families with children who are experiencing homelessness. You’ll hear directly from some of the families about how the services and programs at FMF have not only created greater housing stability for their family but other ways in which they’ve gained greater confidence and self-sufficiency. On December 3rd, everyone wins!
Don’t forget that a ticket to the Gala also gains you access to our incredible Online Auction! If you attended last year, you know that we raised almost $20,000 from the auction and the fantastic packages available. We’re focused on “Get Local and Give Back” so there will be plenty of guilt-free fun and fabulous gift baskets at all price points that you’ll want to give as gifts or keep for yourself.
You won’t want to miss this special night so grab your tickets online at fmfnc.org/gala! And remember, $40 of every $50 Gala ticket is considered a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
Room Makeovers
We want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on one of our longtime partners who has worked incredibly hard to make FMF a more inviting and joyful place for our guests: A Lotta Love!
Lotta Sjoelin started working with shelters in the Triangle in 2014 and has grown her organization into an impressive force for good by transforming shelter rooms to give their residents a feeling of dignity and inspiration.
In-Kind Update
As the pandemic continues we are constantly working to ensure that . The need for cleaning supplies and personal care items continues to grow and are now are top priority for in-kind donations.
Cleaning items such as disinfectant spray & wipes, dish soap, laundry detergent, and floor cleaner are in high demand. In addition, personal care items including toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo & bodywash, toothpaste, and deodorant are requested.
Our network of supporters has allowed us to sustain and even grow our mission during these challenging times. In-kind donations keep our families equipped with the things they need to feel safe and cared for during their crisis. Please visit fmf.org/in-kind for details, and reach out to Brady to schedule a drop-off time, 919-683-5878 x29 or brady@fmfnc.org.
Farewells
Last fall we were fortunate to gain the talents of two amazing Americorps VISTA’s, Imani Vincent and Naomi Etsehiwot. Over the past year they have worked incredibly hard and have become integral parts of the FMF family. Sadly, as the end of October approaches, we have to say goodbye as their service terms come to a close.
Both Imani and Naomi have done incredible work for FMF, making the lives of both our families and our team so much better. They will be sorely missed and we wish them the best in their future endeavors!
Naomi Etsehiywot
Naomi served as our Workforce Development Associate, coordinating programming and finding opportunities for our families to connect with the community. She was a strong advocate for the teens that stayed with us, working hard to create unique and enriching experiences for them to explore their interests and build the skills to reach their goals. Even with the pandemic making programming difficult, Naomi did an amazing job adapting and finding new ways to support our families. After her service term with us is over, Naomi is moving on to work on a Duke Endowment Research Project to promote acknowledgement and accountability around Duke's relationship to slavery. Imani Vincent
Imani served as our Volunteer Engagement Associate, working with volunteers and community partners to provide high-quality programming for our families. It goes without saying that the pandemic presented significant challenges to our volunteer-based programming model, however, despite those hurdles Imani made sure our partners stayed engaged and active. After her service term, Imani is moving over to the Museum of Life and Science as a Schoolhouse Teacher continuing the education of homeschooled children in Durham. Luckily for us, Imani will not be gone from FMF for good, in addition to her new position she is continuing to work on our CC-PES project!
