Friends –
With great excitement, we’re off and running with plans for our second virtual Chefs for Change Gala! While it’s easy to kick rocks and blame COVID for canceling so many of our plans, we had such a great time and turn out at least year’s virtual Gala, we’re not letting this opportunity get away from us. I mean, really, how often do you get to attend a Gala from the comfort of your couch and laptop? So make plans to join us virtually on Saturday, December 3rd, from 7 to 8 pm!
GET LOCAL and GIVE BACK. This year we are reconnecting with our community by getting local! Not only will Gala ticket holders receive a goodie bag delivered to their door the day of the event with local sweet treats, but our online auction is also focused on local eats, experiences, and merch from right here in the Durham area. Gala ticket holders will have access to the online auction one week before the Gala on “Small Business Saturday,” so you can use this opportunity to shop for your friends and family in accordance with the post-Thanksgiving frenzy. Last year’s online auction raised almost $20K and you won’t want to miss this year’s event and festivities!
Today, tickets went on sale through our website at fmfnc.org/gala. Just a reminder that the only folks who do not need to purchase Gala tickets are our business sponsors, so if you had a Series Pass in 2020, you already received 2020 Gala tickets, and it does not cover 2021’s event. This year, $40 of every $50 ticket is a tax-deductible donation.
While Chefs for Change continues to be Durham’s “it” event series, the pandemic certainly prevented us from not only hosting most of our events but hampered our ability to raise vital funds for our services and programs to the families that we serve. Rest assured, we are in conversations with our vendors to ensure that we can and will host our dinners in 2022! Thanks again for all of your support.

Call For Volunteers!
On-site programming has been back for a full month now and we could not be more excited about it! Families have been able to participate in more activities and meet with the amazing community members that support FMF. As October rolls around there will be more opportunities to get involved and connect with us so get out and volunteer! We are always looking for ways you can help us serve families in crisis so reach out today and find out how you can be a part of our mission! In-Kind Update
In the past few weeks, we have been incredibly grateful to receive large amounts of bedding from our friends and partners in the community. Our stores of sheets, comforters, and pillows have finally recovered and we are incredibly grateful for all of your efforts to help us! With that said we are in need of cleaning supplies (disinfectant spray, floor cleaner, paper towels, etc.) as we continue to implement thorough cleaning and safety procedures in the shelter. The support you all show us allows us to continue providing a safe and comforting environment and we cannot thank you all enough.
